VINTAGE SIMPLE

I was invited to create a 12x12 page by Michelle Chow of  'Scrap-It-Lah' for the October Challenge called
' The Simple Challenge'.

So folks, this is it!!

The word 'simple' can be interpreted in many many ways - simple life, simple leisures and so forth...

I like to relate 'simple' to my elderly mother who is presently 85 years of age. She is our best mum, very simple minded and down to earth with no airs, loving, kind and one who takes life easy.

I was pretty lucky to get hold of her wedding photo which was taken almost 65 years ago in black and white, a very precious vintage keepsake.   This vintage found conjures up a feeling of nostalgia and memories

With this sentimental interest in hand, I used this antiqued image of my mother in  vintage simple wedding gown to scrap a meaningful  page.  I truly believe this creation will provide a timeless appeal.

The photo is printed in sepia,  an off white lace cut and with some stitching done before  it is adhered over a vintage pattern paper.  Strings of pearls and vintage buttons added on as embellishments.
Like it?

Look forward to your comments.

Ooo.. what a lovely lace layout. I like how you thought of the theme and put together items pertaining to the theme.

I also notice all the lovely journaling you stated in the post, although it would be an idea to include it into the layout, especially all the things you felt towards mum.

For me, with scrapping a layout, its the journaling that is probably the toughest part of it all. But what I found it easier to just mention the key words. Short sentences also does the trick. Think about the reader - what they would like to know.

Love it love it,

Sharon.

Thank you very much for your comment. Likewise I share the same concern that journaling in scrapbooking is most challenging.

Personally I am drawn to pen down a lot of my thoughts on a piece I have created as it is part of my own journal. It would be so meaningful to view and read back after many years.

Trying to be innovative, I am just wondering if it is acceptable to have only few words or no words at all on a scrapbook page, canvas or any substrate and leave the rest to the imagination of viewers - like an abstract art.

This is such a precious and unconventional layout. I love how you have added the lace and the string of pearls lends such an air of elegance and sophistication to such a precious layout. Thanks for participating in our challenge and we look forward for more beautiful creations from you on our next challenges.

Thanks Michelle for visiting and for the support. I love laces which can be works of art themselves. Fabric and decorative fibers are fun to work with too. To use them as backdrop or attaching to altered pieces with dangling fibers will add an element of whimsy!

hi Puan Sri,

love all the art pieces you had done.
especially this piece.
the way you use the modern lace and add on the little things to make the piece look so vintage and it tell the whole story....
i just know how to use lace into the clothing but you use it into art...i am getting inspiration from your work...lol
keep up good work and can't wait for the next piece.
